Your Impact In Mongolia

After over 60 hours of travel by plane, bus, and train, we arrived in the tiny village of Shaamar in northern Mongolia, just 20 km from the Russian border. Debarking from our train, we were let off in a small field and were immediately amazed by the reality that Mongolians are eagerly awaiting God’s word.

A train attendant asked us of our purpose in his tiny village which opened up the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus. We had to scramble to quickly unpack the new Bibles and he excitedly accepted one, let us pray for him, and then hurried off to tell his family. At that moment, every single hour of travel became more than worth it.

Ending Bible Poverty

Along with 9 other YWAMers from Australia, we joined a movement to see Bible poverty ended in Mongolia. Upon our arrival in the country, there were 100s of missionaries from around the world, including YWAM’s founder Loren Cunningham, ready to offer a Bible to every Mongolian in their heart language. Statistically, Mongolia is one of the most unreached nations in the world where 98% of the population has never heard the Gospel. God empowered us to be a part of changing that.

A Desire for the Word

We were continually in awe at just how eager the people of Mongolia were to receive the Word. We met a woman at the gate of her house who was curious about what we had to offer. This woman’s husband was a drunk and she was seeking hope for her crumbling household. Melinda presented the incredible hope we have through a testimony about how the Bible had impacted her in tough seasons of life. The woman explained that she had heard of Jesus before, but was eagerly waiting for someone to come tell her more. After a prayer and a new bible in hand, she carried a long-awaited new hope for her home! We were able to offer a Bible to nearly every home in Shaamar and just like this lady, 122 other Shaamar households became proud owners of a Bible for the first time.

Our Door Opener

After feeling slightly discouraged from many unanswered knocks, we came together as a team and prayed for more open doors. That afternoon our prayers were answered in the form of a young boy. We visited his home, presented the Gospel, and prayed for his sick parents. Amazed by this message of freedom, he became our guide leading us throughout his neighborhood from house to yurt. He wanted everyone to hear the Good News and would open doors and lead us into homes without even a knock, he truly was our door opener! With the help of passionate locals like this young boy, we were able to share the Gospel with 93 households in Shaamar.

Tons of village kids came to our Sunday school class to learn about Jesus as the good Shepherd (that black thing is a sheep 😉 )

“Give me Jesus!”

To our joy, many Mongolians not only wanted to read the Bible but as they heard the Gospel they were ready to receive Jesus into their hearts to stay! This happened one morning after we shared the Gospel with a woman and gifted her a Bible. We prayed with her and then instructed her to go and tell others about the revelation she had experienced. Two days later our team entered a house and to our surprise, the same woman was there discussing Jesus and sharing her Bible with a group of friends. Our team shared the Gospel with them and through the testimony of the woman the entire family gave their lives to Christ! Not just this group of 4, but 20 other Shaamar villagers accepted Jesus which more than tripled the existing church!

A Lasting Impact

Your prayers and support enabled us to dedicate 2 weeks to bringing God’s Word and Good News to the isolated people of Mongolia. Below is a map of the village of Shaamar. Each pin represents a home that we knocked at to offer a Bible and opportunity to hear the Gospel. We strongly believe this impact will carry through the generations in Shaamar and all across Mongolia. Amazingly, similar reports of Bibles received and salvations witnessed have come from other teams strewn across the nation as well!

We had the pleasure of encouraging and working alongside the small local church of Shaamar. We witnessed many of the men, women, and children who we had given Bibles to, attend church for the first time with their new Bibles in hand! The service ended with a powerful ministry time that we believe marks a new season for Shamaar and its church. We left confident that the new believers would be discipled and the Gospel would continue to be proclaimed!

Over half of Shaamar received the free gift of the Bible and the opportunity to hear the Gospel for the first time! Green Pins represent homes that received these gifts, Brown pins represent homes who didn’t answer our knock but will be tried again later, and red pins represent homes who rejected these gifts when offered.

You Can Still Make an Impact!

Reaching the isolated with God’s Word isn’t easy. But from this experience, we can testify that it is so worth it. We are still receiving donations towards this Ending Bible Poverty project and invite you to join our financial support team below:
